vitamin e acetate, also known as vitamin E acetate, is a common vitamin supplement. vitamin e acetate is an ester of acetic acid and tocopherol (vitamin E) and vitamin e acetate is commonly used in skin care products such as skin creams. vitamin e acetate is not oxidized and can penetrate the skin into living cells, where approximately 5% is converted to free tocopherol, providing beneficial antioxidant effects. Since the phenolic hydroxyl groups are blocked, vitamin e acetate is used as a substitute for tocopherol itself, providing a less acidic product with a longer shelf life. vitamin e acetate thought that once absorbed into the skin, acetate is slowly hydrolyzed to regenerate tocopherols, providing sun protection.
