sodium cyclamate, scientifically known as sodium cyclamate sulfonate (C6H11NHSO3Na), is a non-nutritive synthetic sweetener made by reacting sulfamic acid with cyclohexylamine (C6H11NH2) and NaOH. sodium cyclamate is a white needle-like, flake-like crystal or crystalline powder in appearance, with a melting point of about 170°C. The 10% aqueous solution of sodium cyclamate is neutral (pH value is 6.5) and stable to heat, light and air. Slightly bitter after heating. The decomposition temperature of sodium cyclamate is about 280°C, and no caramelization reaction occurs. Soluble in water (1g/5mL) and propylene glycol (1g/5mL), almost insoluble in ethanol, ether, benzene and chloroform
