Since the phenolic hydroxyl groups are blocked, pure vitamin e oil is used as a substitute for tocopherol itself, providing a less acidic product with a longer shelf life. pure vitamin e oil thought that once absorbed into the skin, acetate is slowly hydrolyzed to regenerate tocopherols, providing sun protection.
